Before you pack
- — KLR650 / KLX are tube-type with spoked wheels; Versys cast wheels are tubeless.
- — Known for fasteners backing out on long trips — threadlocker and spare bolts earn their weight.

Reversible screwdriver — JIS/Phillips + flat
Carb bowls, clamps, bodywork and inspection covers. On Japanese bikes the cross-head screws are JIS, not Phillips — a Phillips driver cams out and rounds them off.
Spoke wrench
One loose spoke turns into a buckled wheel over a few hundred kilometres of piste. Check and re-tension on the road.
